There are two main aims to this module. The first is to engage you with more examples of the practice and application of health psychology. To this end the majority of the sessions in the module are delivered by guest speakers – often health psychologists or other health professionals working in applied settings. Within these sessions you will be exposed to up-to-date research and current issues within the profession of health psychology. Your experiences and opinions are particularly valued in these classes and you are encouraged to take an active participatory role. Attending the Midlands Health Psychology Network annual conference can be counted as one of the learning sessions within the module.
The second aim of the module is to cover applied skills in a research and professional practice setting. You can choose either to develop a theory-driven intervention or to engage in work experience. Where you are already employed in a relevant setting, this work can be used subject to module leader approval.
